Book Reviews

Project Management University has reviewed and recommends the following books:

  • Project Management: A Systems Approach to Planning, Scheduling, and Controlling
by Harold Kerzner

REVIEW: "Clear, logical writing makes this book very easy to read."

  • Critical Chain
by Eliyahu Goldratt

REVIEW: "The original treatise on Critical Chain project management. The key--focus on your project resource constraints as well as your time constraints. Don't multi-task--yourself nor your project team."

  • Critical Chain Project Management, Second Edition
by Lawrence P. Leach

REVIEW:  Larry does a cogent job analyzing the root problems of project management failures and the solutions. He compares and contrasts PMBOK, TQM, and TOC.

He derives Critical Chain project management from the existing problems with project management, narrowing down to the key constraint, and solving it. He also applies these principles to a multi-project environment He closes by covering the Thinking Process of Theory of Constraints.
"

  • We All Fall Down: Goldratt's Theory of Constraints for Healthcare Systems
by Julie Wright, Russ King

REVIEW: "A good story, in the spirit of "The Goal", about applying Theory of Constraints  to the British National Health Service. Many of the issues and the core problem can be applied to health care systems and other organizations around the world."
